Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport in the DPRK is developing harbor transportation, according to Minju Joson.

The ministry is conducting economic operations and command to promote the work for modernizing the wharves of several ports and strengthening the material and technical foundations of shipbuilding and repair units.

The repair of wharf No. 1 and embankment No. 1 and the project of embankment No. 2 were completed at Hungnam Port and a container gantry crane capable of doubling the capacity of handling containers was newly manufactured and installed at Nampho Port.

The ministry is pushing ahead with the reconstruction and modernization of Chongjin and Wonsan ports.

It worked out the plan for repairing large cargo ships and is carrying it out.

It is dredging the sediments on trade ports and shipping lane of the Taedong River after working out the plan for operating cargo ships on a scientific and technological way. -0-
