Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- Scientific and technological exchanges are being conducted on a nationwide scale to make a greater leap forward in economic development and the improvement of the people's living standards.

The sci-tech presentation, symposium and technical lecture were held between August 12 and 21 under the sponsorship of various associations and societies of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea. Published and discussed there were valuable proposals of giving answers to the pending problems in various fields of the national economy.

A national sci-tech presentation in the field of chemical materials was held with the main emphasis on converting the structure of the country's chemical industry to the Juche industry relying on locally available raw materials.

The Korean Machine-building Industry Association organized a meeting for reviewing the second-stage national technical innovation contest for solving the sci-tech problems arising in improving the processing accuracy of machine tools and introducing advanced heat treatment techniques.

Widely shared and transferred at the national sci-tech presentation in the field of laser held under the theme of "Role of laser and plasma technology in economic development" were sci-tech achievements made in the work to develop laser and plasma techniques and introduce them into various fields of the national economy.

A national scientific symposium on the technology of cultivating high-yielding dry-field rice and a technical lecture on cultivating and processing "Sweet potato No. 1" took place to discuss high-yielding cultivation methods and the innovative proposals for producing and supplying raw materials of sugar necessary for the normal operation of regional-industry factories.

Papers on the researches on the otolaryngology multifunctional endoscope, thoracoscope surgical apparatus and on putting the medical service on an IT basis, which were made public at sci-tech presentation and symposium in the field of medical appliances, drew the attention of experts. -0-
