Pyongyang, January 12 (KCNA) -- Citizens of the DPRK conducted mass sports activities on the first day of sports for this year.

Sports games were held at commissions, ministries and national agencies.

Officials of the Agricultural Commission, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the Ministry of Chemical Industry, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry and the Ministry of Machine-building Industry played ball games, including basketball and volleyball, to show their good skills.

Those at the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and the Taesongsan Guidance Bureau took part in Taekwon-Do and tennis and other games, in which they displayed their sports skills cultivated during their mass sports activities.

Working people at the industrial establishments in Pyongyang were overflowing with revolutionary enthusiasm.

Workers at the Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant, the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Silk Mill and other units played football, volleyball and other games. The players demonstrated their team spirit and solidarity amid the enthusiastic cheering of each team.

Universities and schools at all levels, including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and Ryomyong Senior Middle School in Taesong District, held sports and folk games and sports and amusement games.

Various mass sports games took place in different parts of the country.

Sports and amusement games, including football, basketball, volleyball and riding, which took place at Hamhung Stadium and the South Hamgyong Provincial Sports Village, showed the enthusiasm of working people, youth and students in the industrial province.

At the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, the Tokchon Area Coal-mining Complex, the Taean Heavy Machine Complex, etc., workers displayed their high spirit in sports games. -0-
