Measures for Protecting Land and Improving Ecological Environment Taken in DPRK

Pyongyang, January 17 (KCNA) -- True to the decision of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the field of land and environment protection of the DPRK is taking scientific and innovative measures to protect the land and improve the ecological environment and stubbornly carrying out them.

Officials of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection and relevant units are intensifying the work to achieve remarkable successes in land management this year.

Substantial measures for minimizing flood damage are being discussed to focus on protecting the lives and property of the people and the land.

Efforts are being directed to planting many trees of great economic value, and practical measures are being taken to improve the forest ecological environment of the country by pushing ahead with the forest restoration.

Also discussed is the issue of improving the technical condition of roads, the face of the country, and the issue of pushing ahead with the technical updating of highways, tourist roads and major roads.

The work for mapping out the master plan for land development reflecting the medium and long-term green plan is detailed so as to preserve the characteristics of regions and contribute to land management, economic development and improvement of the people's living standard.

The issue of reinforcing an environmental monitoring network including installing the posts for real-time monitoring over the water quality of rivers on a trial base is also discussed. -0-
