Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Peaks of Mt Paektu consist of mountains with the height of more than 2 600 meters above the sea level. Their steep cliffs are surrounding the Lake Chon on Mt Paektu like folding screens.

They are arousing solemn and mysterious feeling for the magnificent and curious looks of the mountains and endlessly unfolded forest. The magnificent looks of the peaks of Mt Paektu were formed by several eruptive activities and subsidence.

Old books say that the peaks of Mt Paektu have curious figures like a huge jade properly trimmed, and they are more spectacular in harmony with the fine scenery of the Lake Chon in the middle.

The number of the peaks is over 210 from the viewpoint of landscape.

Janggun Peak (2 750 m) is not only the highest peak of Mt Paektu, but also the highest one of the country. Hyangdo Peak (2 712 m) is located about one kilometer northeast from it and Haebal Peak (2 719 m) about one kilometer southwest from Janggun Peak.

These peaks are called the three peaks of Mt Paektu.
