Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Forestry Science has been built on a modern basis in the DPRK.

The academy has all conditions, including an office building of unique architectural style, welfare facilities and pilot plant and auxiliary building for studying and developing various kinds of processed wild fruits. Its completion laid another foundation for putting the afforestation on a scientific basis.

An inauguration ceremony of the Academy of Forest Science was held on January 19.

Present there were Vice-Premier of the Cabinet Kim Jong Gwan and officials, researchers and employees of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, the Pyongyang Construction Commission, the Academy of Forest Science and relevant unit.

Kim Jong Gwan addressed the ceremony.

He called on the researchers of the academy to bring about a radical turn in the work to breed more trees suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the country, study and perfect a new tree-planting method and acclimatize trees of good species with the main emphasis on solving the problems arising in afforestation and forest conservation.

At the end of the ceremony the participants looked round the academy. -0-
