Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Koryo celadon (jade green ceramics) symbolizing the famous Koryo ceramics of Korea is widely known worldwide for its beautiful color.
The term of jade green is derived from the color of green jadeite. It is a soft blue color that is bright and yet produces noble and deep emotions.
People of Koryo (918-1392) made famous celadon by selecting a peculiar color suited to the beauty of nature and the emotions and sentiments of the nation.
Creators of the Mansudae Art Studio, a comprehensive fine art producer of the DPRK, said that it is not easy to get such a beautiful color as Koryo celadon and the color of the ceramics varies according to the components of the ground clay and glaze, and their interrelationship, the characteristics of the kiln, the quality of firewood, the amount of moisture and the skill of the ceramist. Noting that many Koryo celadon represent the same beautiful color, they said that such fact shows a glimpse of the high ceramic technique of Korean ancestors.
Koryo celadon has been further developed to the height of beauty by introducing a special decoration method called the inlaid technique. The soft color of jade green glaze and subtle and elaborate pattern decoration of the ceramic are the peculiar aesthetic tastes that can be seen only in Koryo celadon.
