Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Urban river management is underway in different parts of the DPRK, true to the decisions of the plenary meetings of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Pyongyang Municipality is contributing to improving its citizens' cultural and emotional life by protecting the ecology of rivers and adding beauty to their scenery. A project for building new pumping stations and expanding capacity of the existing ones to improve water quality of the Pothong River was completed and efficient methods for treatment of wastewater were introduced.

Officials and working people finished embankment projects in many sections, the creation of riverside protection forests, etc.

With the aim of turning the banks of rivers in the city of Chongjin into pleasure parks, North Hamgyong Province completed the construction of dozens of settling basins and promenades and the planting of grass in an area of more than 70 000 square meters in a short span of time.

South Phyongan Province dredged the rivers in Phyongsong City and planted trees by mobilizing all its forces and means.

Officials and working people in North and South Hwanghae provinces and Kaesong Municipality are displaying patriotic enthusiasm and devotion in the urban river improvement. -0-
