DPRK Players Win Many Medals for Last Decade

In his historic letter to those attending the Seventh National Conference of Sportspeople on March 25, 2015, ten years ago, the General Secretary clearly indicated the tasks and ways for developing the sports of the country onto a new high stage.
In hearty response to the immortal programme embodying the Workers' Party of Korea's idea and policy on attaching importance to the sports, the sportspersons in the country have intensified their training, thus winning at least 1 920 medals including 910 gold medals in many international games over the past decade. And mass sports activities have been brisk, making the whole country full of revolutionary optimism.
Various mass sports games were held across the country to inspire the people with confidence in victory and inject vitality in their struggle for ushering in a new era of the comprehensive national development.
The solid material and technical foundations of sports sector were laid in the course of struggle for implementing the Party's policy on sports. And more than 10 cities, counties and districts including Hoeryong City, Phyongsong City, Kangdong County, Hamju County, Taesong District and Hyongjesan District won the titles of model sports city, model sports county and model sports district as they have made achievements in training reserve sportspersons and in mass sports games by making sports mass-based and part of their daily routine.
Thousands of units including the Sangwon Cement Complex, Chongryu Restaurant, Okryu Children's Hospital and the Pyongyang Dental Hygiene Products Factory were awarded the title of model sports unit (including twice).
The eye-opening successes made in the country's professional sports development and mass sports over the past decade go to clearly prove the validity and vitality of the WPK's idea and policy on attaching importance to the sports. -0-
