Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Municipality is conducting the work to prevent natural disasters and ensure economic activities and people's living.

The Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the municipal people's committee are organizing and guiding the work to help all officials make preparations for minimizing the damage by disastrous abnormal weather in their regions and units.

They have established a more regular system of warning and information so that all kinds of disaster warnings and instructions and assignments are accurately conveyed by further raising the responsibility and role of the emergency disaster and crisis control groups at all levels, and are paying attention to establishing the unified work system and discipline for ensuring the scientific accuracy and promptness in coping with crisis.

The work is progressing apace to make the material preparations for coping with disaster and crisis to boost the mobility of the emergency means, fully stockpile essential medicines and daily necessities and keep them in a responsible manner.

The agricultural sector in the municipality is taking measures to minimize the damage by high temperature and drought by ensuring the full operation of pumping equipment while manuring and cultivating crops in a responsible way.

After establishing a flood control system, the municipality has made achievements by comprehensively inspecting the operation of reservoirs for irrigation and concentrating its forces and means on river improvement and embankment repair.

It has monitored the water level of rivers and streams on a regular basis and improved the technical state of the floodgates to deal with rainwater without hindrance. It is also pushing ahead with the work to ensure the safety of electric-light poles and rail structures to prevent any deviation from passenger transport in case a natural disaster crisis occurs. -0-
