Anti-Drought Campaign Intensified

Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Measures are taken in different parts of the DPRK to minimize the possible drought damage to crops.

The Agricultural Commission and provinces, cities and counties have carried on the work to survey the areas where drought is expected to be severe and take practical measures.

Jangyon, Ongjin, Unryul and Kangryong and other counties in South Hwanghae Province have applied rational irrigation methods according to soil humidity and sunshine rates.

Sariwon City and Pongsan and Phyongsan counties of North Hwanghae Province have improved the nutritional state of crops while applying various kinds of growth promoters and biological activators.

Kaesong Municipality has carried out the irrigation task by allocating labor rationally in keeping with the simultaneous progress of various farming processes.

Counties in Kangwon and South Hamgyong provinces have applied furrow irrigation and sprinkler irrigation to suit the specific conditions while giving various kinds of nutrients to raise the crops' resistance to drought.

Officials and agricultural workers in North and South Phyongan provinces have introduced various irrigation methods according to topographical conditions while mainly applying the sprinkler irrigation.

Officials of ministries and national agencies have striven to settle the knotty problems, learning about the operation of pumping equipment and the amount of secured water resources at farms. -0-
