Pyongyang, November 29 (KCNA) -- The Folklore Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences of the DPRK published the "Encyclopedia of Korean Folklore" (complete in 50 volumes).
The newly-published encyclopedia synthesizes and systematizes the folk customs, which have been created and carried forward by the Korean people in the 5 000-year-long history from the ancient times to the medieval ages and modern times, on the principle of the Juche character, scientific accuracy and historicism.
The encyclopedia contains the original book "Brief of the Korean Folklore" and books dealing with the inheritance and development of the folk customs according to the ages and the customs of the Korean people including diet, costumes, farming and hunting according to categories.
Through the scientific clarification of the laws that guide the formation and development of folk customs, the continuous inheritance of labor life, family life, folk games, customs related with martial arts, folk art, etc. and their advantages, the encyclopedia shows well that the Korean people have created and developed their own fine folk customs from the earliest period in the world. -0-
