Walled City of Kaesong, World Heritage in Kaesong Municipality of DPRK

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The Walled City of Kaesong was a capital in the Koryo period (918-1392) and it encircles Kaesong Municipality of today.

The wall is 23 km round, of which the stone wall is 5.5km long and the earthen one 17.5km long.

The walled city consists of the imperial castle, royal castle and outer and inner walls.

The imperial castle, together with the royal castle, was built at the foot of Mt Songak in the early days of Koryo.

The 16 km-long outer wall was built from 1009 to 1029 to cope with the invasion by foreign aggressors.

The inner wall 8.5 km long was erected from 1391 to 1393. The remains of the walls tell of the time-honored history of Kaesong. -0-
