Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- May 31 is World No Tobacco Day.
Today when nonsmoking is becoming the trend of the modern world, a nonsmoking campaign is brisk in the DPRK and the number of people who give up smoking, realizing the harmfulness and danger of tobacco, is increasing as days go by.
On November 4, 2020, the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK adopted the Tobacco-Prohibition Law composed of 31 provisions.
The country makes sure that all institutions, organizations and citizens strictly observe the law in protecting the life and health of the people and creating a more cultured and hygienic living environment by intensifying the legal and social control over tobacco production and sale and smoking as required by the state policy on tobacco prohibition.
It has designated theatres, cinemas, units of the nursing and upbringing of children, educational institutions, medical health facilities, public catering facilities and public transport as nonsmoking places and units, and stuck nonsmoking marks on the places where smoking is not allowed to make sure that the people observe the order of nonsmoking.
Various events related to the harmfulness of tobacco, including lecture, video show, performance by hygienic information teams and photo exhibition, are taking place across the country on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.
The Non-smoking Research Center in Sosong District of Pyongyang and its branches in all provinces are conducting consultation, service, research into the harmful effects by tobacco upon human body and their consequences, development of nonsmoking products and health foods and education through motivation aids. -0-
