Measures for Protecting of Crops from Disastrous Abnormal Weather

Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- Farms in North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK push ahead with the work to minimize damage to crops from disastrous abnormal weather.

Cities, counties and farms learned about the state of reservoirs, irrigation waterways, anti-tidal dykes and rivers and streams and finished in the main the repair of reservoir banks of more than 20 spots, improvement of irrigation waterways extending over 1 000 kilometers and drainage of ditches in the disaster-prone areas.

Onsong and Kilju counties have rationally applied manpower and means to dyke projects and strengthened the guidance at construction to ensure the quality of construction to withstand any flood while putting the water management of reservoirs on a scientific basis.

Chongjin City and Kyongsong County are protecting crops from drought and flood by ensuring the normal operation of pumping and drainage equipment in keeping with the persistent heat and heavy rain.

Agricultural workers in Hoeryong City and Hwadae County are putting the extermination of harmful insects on a scientific basis and improving the nutritive conditions of crops by spraying growth stimulants and biological activators. -0-
