Mt Kumgang in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Mt Kumgang, a famous mountain in the DPRK, is a world-famous scenic spot.

The biosphere sanctuary of Mt Kumgang covers a vast area of over 262 580 hectares in Kosong, Kumgang and Thongchon counties of Kangwon Province.

Mt Kumgang is a complex of all natural beauties.

It consists of Outer Kumgang, Inner Kumgang and Sea Kumgang.

It is characterized by peculiar scenery of mountains and valleys.

On the peaks of the mountain, including Piro Peak and Chail Peak, there are many fantastic rocks of magic types, such as Samson Rock, Kwimyon Rock, Lion Rock and Rabbit Rock.

There are observation platforms, natural stone gates and natural caves.

The Manphok Ravine is the most famous of many valleys in the mountain.

In the mountain, there are more than 1 220 kinds of higher plants and many special plants and over 250 kinds of vertebrates, more than 30 kinds of wild animals and over 100 kinds of birds.

The mountain has Buddhist temples and precious cultural heritages.

Mt Kumgang was registered as a world biosphere sanctuary, the fifth of its kind in the DPRK, in July 2018. -0-
