Coal Production Increased in DPRK

Pyongyang, January 11 (KCNA) -- In hearty response to the decisions of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the coal industry of the DPRK takes practical measures to consolidate the material and technical foundation of coal mines and increase their productivity.

Officials of the Ministry of Coal Industry and relevant units are intensifying discussion and consultation on the issues arising in consolidating the production basis of coal mines and increasing coal production.

Steps have been taken to give precedence to the supply of materials needed for the construction of new coal mines and pits and provide coal miners with improved living conditions.

Proposals are made to raise the transportation capacity at the Ryongdae Youth Coal Mine and Wolbong and other coal mines.

Coal miners at Namdok, Inpho and Phunggok youth coal mines under the Pukchang Area Youth Coal Mining Complex produced hundreds of more tons of coal in the first week of the year.

February 8 Jikdong, Ryongdae and Chonsong youth coal mines under the Sunchon Area Youth Coal Mining Complex have introduced efficient blasting methods and operated equipment at full capacity to register high production results.

The same is true of other coal mining complexes across the country. -0-
