Agricultural Sector Takes Measures to Minimize Damage by Disastrous Abnormal Weather

Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- The agricultural sector in the DPRK is taking measures to minimize damage in the rainy season.

Kangdong County in Pyongyang Municipality dredged over 180 000 cubic meters of riverbeds and built retaining walls of more than 75 000 square meters on 10-odd small and medium rivers.

Farms in Rangnang, Sadong and Mangyongdae districts have prepared tents, life jackets and other materials and rescue apparatuses to prevent human loss and provide living conditions in the event of disaster.

Huichon City and Hyangsan and Chosan counties in Jagang Province completed the anti-land-sliding projects and the repair of embankments.

Tongsin and Songwon counties are pushing ahead with the small and medium river improvement projects and waterway realignment while taking measures for exterminating harmful insects and preventing rice and maize from falling in rainstorm.

Nampho Municipality finished the projects for perpetuating the tide-water control dykes in the several kilometers-long sections, completed the reinforcement of embankments and built retaining walls to protect thousands of hectares of farmland from high tide and tidal waves.

The Sepho Area Livestock Farming Management Committee has increased the water-passing capacity of rivers and streams to prevent houses, animal sheds and other buildings from damage while solving the issues arising in providing feed in rainy season. -0-
