Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- The Kim Il Sung Stadium in the DPRK marked its 80th founding anniversary.
The 80-year-long history of the stadium is a glorious one recorded with the undying devotion, efforts and loving care of the peerlessly great men who devoted themselves to the development of the country's sports and the people's sports, cultural and leisure activities.
President Kim Il Sung took a measure to rehabilitate the stadium by adopting the decision no. 2 of the Pyongyang City rehabilitation committee despite the postwar difficult period. He visited the construction site for more than 10 times to solve all problems arising in construction.
Chairman Kim Jong Il initiated the project for remodeling and expanding the stadium. He saw to it that the stadium was wonderfully turned into a modern seat for sports and culture with his energetic leadership. He also took a benevolent measure to call the then Moranbong Stadium the Kim Il Sung Stadium and fix October 14, 1945, when the President made a historic speech of his triumphal return to the country, as its founding day.
On April 14, 2012, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un came to the stadium to attend the national meeting for celebrating the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung and gave instructions on managing and operating it well. Later, he watched football matches at the stadium with citizens of the capital city for several times and clearly indicated the tasks and ways for sprucing up it.
Over the past 80 years, the stadium has contributed to developing the sports of the country and improving the sports, cultural and leisure activities of the people.
