Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- In the city of Samjiyon, Ryanggang Province of the DPRK, there is the Phothae area with wonderful natural scenery.

Mt. Pukphothae is 2 288 meters high, which is the main peak of the Pukphotaesan Volcano.

Karim and Sohongdan streams begin at the southern foot of the mountain and Sodu Stream begins at the eastern foot.

The Pukphotaesan Volcano has a rectangular crater which is 4.5 km long and 2.0 km wide.

There are many cliffs and rockwalls on slopes and ridges of volcanic bodies, and lava cliffs and towers.

The mountain has rich forest resources.

Mt. Namphotae, 2 433 meters above sea level, is coned.

The Namphotaesan Volcano is of great scientific significance as it has such magnificent and unique volcanic landscape as the violent upheaval of the huge granite body which can never be seen from other volcanoes, and volcanic craters and volcanic rocks on it and its magnificent topographical features.

Karim Stream flows at the eastern slope of the mountain and Photae Stream at the western slope.

Different kinds of animals inhabit the mountain.

While giving field guidance over the construction of the city of Samjiyon in July last year, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that the Phothae area, an undeveloped area, can be regarded as an area suitable to mountain tourism for sports and experience for its large amount of snowfall and in terms of nature, geography, meteorology and climate.

He clearly indicated the orientation and ways for successfully building a cultural and tourist resort with Mt Pukphothae as a centre, which will be frequented by the people. -0-
