Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- Ryanggang Province of the DPRK has directed efforts to strengthening its ability to cope with natural disasters.
Hyesan City and Paegam and Kapsan counties are concentrating their manpower and means on river improvement and pushing ahead with the work to urgently repair the vulnerable houses and public buildings before the rainy season.
The provincial power transmission and distribution station is taking measures to prevent damage to power-transmission line towers and transmitting and transforming facilities and steadily installing lightening rods and reinforcing electric-light poles. And it is establishing the command and information systems in good order so as to prevent the supply of electricity from being interrupted during the rainy season.
The Hyesan Railway Branch has intensified the monitoring of railways, railway bridges and tunnels and eliminated the vulnerable elements in a timely manner. The forestry stations and mine timber production stations in the province finished retaining walls and clearing ditches in defective sections on mountain roads and forestry railways in a short span of time.
While making unfavorable weather conditions a fait accompli and taking scientific and technological measures, officials and working people in the agricultural sector completed the drainage of ditches around potato fields in a qualitative way by combining machinery means with draught animals. -0-
