River Improvement Project Accelerated in Flood-hit Areas of DPRK

Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- Service personnel of the Korean People's Army in charge of the recovery work in flood-hit areas of Jagang Province are speeding up the river improvement project.

Soldier-builders successfully carried out the dredging of more than 40 000 cubic meters of river bed in a short span of time, with the main emphasis on enhancing the water passage capacity.

A large amount of rubble was collected and soil removed to complete the building retaining walls in section extending hundreds of meters.

The builders finished the ground excavation for retaining walls extending more than 80 000 cubic meters and have pushed ahead with the dredging of river bed as scheduled, increasing the operation rate of heavy machines.

They are ensuring the quality of the embankment project so that they can withstand any flood. -0-
