Pyongyang, October 23 (KCNA) -- The Central Information and Communications Centre marked its 80th founding anniversary.

After Korea's liberation President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the destroyed communication facilities and equipment were restored as early as possible. During the hard-fought war, he sent precious equipment to ensure the smooth communication between the front and the rear. After the war he personally chose the site for the centre and energetically led the work to modernize the country's communications.

The communication of President Kim Il Sung's historic speech on his triumphal return was ensured on October 14, 1945, so Chairman Kim Jong Il set that day as the founding anniversary of the centre. And he indicated the concrete tasks and ways of developing it into a comprehensive information and communications base of the country.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un unfolded a far-reaching plan to bring about a fresh turn in the posts and telecommunications service, and led the centre to fulfill its mission and duty as an advanced base for ensuring information and communications across the country.

True to the Workers' Party of Korea's idea of attaching importance to science and technology and its policy on making all the people well versed in science and technology, the centre has conducted a dynamic mass technological innovation movement to modernize equipment and improve the quality of information and communications in conformity with the worldwide trend of the development of communications. By doing so, the centre has provided the people with more civilized cultural living conditions.

In those days, the centre was awarded Order of Kim Il Sung, Kim Il Sung Youth Honor Prize, Kim Jong Il Youth Honor Prize, Three-Revolution Red Flag and Twice "Lathe No.26" Model Machine Prize.

A meeting was held on October 22 to mark the 80th founding anniversary of the centre.
