Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- The vanguard role of patriotic youth in the DPRK is increasing in the course of struggle this year, the last year of implementing the five-year plan for national economic development set forth by the Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Young people in the electrical power industry including the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex and the Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant collected thousands of tons of coal to contribute to normalizing the production.

Officials and members of the youth league of the Chollima Steel Complex and the Namhung Youth Chemical Complex are playing a vanguard role in the drive for increased production of iron and steel and fertilizer while conducting the movement of doing one more shift and mass technical innovation.

The young people of the Ministry of Railways produced more than 300 000 concrete sleepers through shock brigade activities and provided hundreds of cubic meters of gravel, thus contributing to laying a guarantee for strengthening the material and technical foundations of the railways and normalizing transport.

Young people across the country sent tens of thousands of small farm implements, tens of thousands of tons of urban manure and self-sufficing manure to rural youth workteams and sub-workteams. Their deeds are encouraging the agricultural workers in their efforts to carry out the immediate farming process.

Thanks to the patriotic enthusiasm of young people in different units of the national economy, hundreds of equipment and machines updated their performance and were named "Chongnyon" this year.

Members of the Kim Kwang Chol Youth Shock Brigade at the Ryongdung Coal Mine under the Kujang Area Coal-mining Complex fulfilled their yearly national economic plan and members of the Cha Kwang Su Youth Shock Brigade of the Tukjang Youth Coal Mine of the Tukjang Area Coal-mining Complex fulfilled their first half-yearly national economic plan.

Young people of the Pakchon Silk Mill are putting production on a normal basis in the spirit of carrying out the first half-yearly national economic plan, and the young fisherwomen of Ship "Daughter of Workers' Party of Korea - Young Heroine" of the Ryongampho Fishery Station are over-fulfilling their monthly fishing plans. -0-
