Area of Economic Forests Increased in North Hwanghae Province of DPRK

Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- In hearty response to the regional development policy of the Workers' Party of Korea, North Hwanghae Province in the DPRK is consistently increasing the area of economic forests.

The province has intensified the organizational and political work to create forests of oil-bearing trees, forests for raw materials for paper, etc. in a far-sighted way, thus expanding the area of economic forests 1.2 times as compared with last year.

Meanwhile, it is consolidating the material and technical foundations of tree nurseries and generalizing the successes and experience of advanced units through technical exhibitions and demonstrations.

The provincial tree nursery introduced advanced cultivation techniques according to species and growth stage of trees and sent healthy saplings to various parts of the province by directing efforts to the management of temperature and humidity and the forecast of harmful insects.

The workers of the Singye, Koksan and Thosan county forest management stations raised the rate of rooting of pine-nut trees by boosting production at mother nurseries and nurseries in forests and cultivating the planted trees in a scientific and technological way.

Songnim City created hundreds of hectares of Evodia daniellii Benn forests.

Yonthan, Sinphyong and Rinsan counties planted many Aronia melanocarpa and chestnut trees while ensuring the number of trees per hectare in conformity with the regional characteristics.

Working people and school youth and children in Sangwon, Pongsan and Kumchon counties planted Larix leptolepis, Sangwon poplar trees in the forests under their charge to increase the area of forests for timber or raw materials for paper. -0-
