Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- From olden times Korea has been known to the world as a country of beautiful silk.
According to a historical record, the Korean ancestors began to breed wild silkworms after acclimatization from early times and obtain raw silk from silkworms to weave silk cloth in ancient times.
Silk thread processing and the texture of silk cloth have also been developed.
As the hemp cloth was the first one woven in Korea, the silk-weaving apparatus was the same as the loom.
At that time, the vertical loom was used in weaving silk cloth. There were various weaving methods including plain weave, twill weave, sateen weave and distortion weave.
The Korean people invented the printing for the first time in the world to apply it to weave silk cloth.
The cloth printing, an easy method among cloth patterns, was further refined with the introduction of various printing technique with the passage of times.
The silk cloth of Korea is the most durable, light and beautiful among natural fiber. It is cool in summer and warm in winter.
It is not wrinkled easily for its good elasticity.
The traditional silk production technique was registered as one of the national intangible cultural heritage in October 2017. -0-
