Non-smoking Campaign in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Today is World No Tobacco Day.

The World Health Organization set the theme of the day as "Unmasking the appeal-countering nicotine and tobacco addiction" and called upon each country to take an active part in the non-smoking campaign, well aware of the harmfulness of nicotine and tobacco on the human health.

The DPRK adopted the Tobacco-Prohibition Law in November 2020 and has conducted a proactive non-smoking campaign through the Non-smoking Research Center.

The Non-smoking Research Center in Sosong District of Pyongyang has branches in every province.

The center diagnoses various diseases caused by nicotine content in human body and smoking and helps smokers quit smoking via video. It developed a program for assessing the dependence on nicotine for consultation so that smokers can be well aware of their condition.

And it has informed, through its website "Kumyon (prohibition of smoking)", of the harmful effect of smoking on human body and the effective ways for refraining from smoking.

It has also produced tobacco cessation nutrition pills good for relieving nicotine addiction to contribute to the promotion of people's health.

It is now disseminating various kinds of non-smoking leaflets while conducting the survey of nationwide smoking rate in connection with the Ministry of Public Health. -0-
