Efforts on Minimizing Damage by Downpour Made at Industrial Establishments

Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- A mass movement is going on at industrial establishments across the DPRK to prevent various kinds of accidents and natural disasters in keeping with the fact that warnings for downpour and heavy rain were issued in all parts of the country including North and South Phyongan, Jagang, Kangwon, South Hamgyong and Ryanggang provinces.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex and the Munphyong Smeltery step up preparations for mobilizing all forces and means in case of emergency, taking precautions to prevent equipment and materials from being destroyed and damaged.

The Sunchon Area Youth Coal Mining Complex and the Kyongwon Area Coal Mining Complex re-examined the operation of pumps at working faces and restored drainage ditches around coal yards and retaining walls to thoroughly prevent coal washout.

The Sinuiju Railway Branch Bureau and other railway branch bureaus and stations, engine service brigades and trackmen's teams learned about the landslide danger-bearing places and removed them in time, while pushing ahead with the work for protecting and reinforcing locomotives, freight cars, railway bridges and railway tracks.

The Ragwon General Machine Complex, the December 5 Youth Mine, the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory and the Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory reinforced and fixed outdoor equipment and building roofs so as to prevent them from falling or blowing away by strong winds.

The Songdowon, Chongjin and other fishery stations across the country organize the work to protect fishing boats, aquaculture grounds and coastal structures.

Land management and urban management sectors in North Phyongan, Jagang and Ryanggang provinces have conducted the work to straighten waterways, repair roofs of buildings, clean conduits and build storm sewerage system. -0-
