New Natural Monuments Registered in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Ponghak Spring Water, Rungnado Ginkgo Tree and Paektusan Stone Flower have been registered as new natural monuments in the DPRK.

Ponghak Spring Water is sprung out from a natural cave located in the Ponghak-dong area of Phyongsong City.

For the geological characteristics of strata, this water is clear, refreshing and tasty, and it is effective in curing digestive and cardiovascular systemic diseases.

Rungnado Ginkgo Tree grows on the picturesque Rungna Islet.

This tree is 4.4 meters round in its lower part. Its first branch spreads out at about two meters above the ground, with 20-odd thick branches taking the shape of broom.

The tree is 23 meters high and its crown is 22 meters east and west and 21 meters north and south. It is of stronger force of growth than other ginkgo trees.

Paektusan Stone Flower, a perennial herb belonging to Crassulaceae, is a peculiar natural medicinal herb that grows in the areas of Mt Paektu, Mt Rangnim, Mt Turyu and other highlands.

The country has such species of stone flowers as Rhodiola elongata, Rhodiola angusta, Rhodiola ramosa and Rhodiola rosea.

Stone flower is considered to be the most ideal medicinal herb for recovering mental and physical fatigue as it has more than 40 kinds of medicinal ingredients in its root.

In the world, stone flower is called "golden plant" and used as ideal tonics in the public health sector. -0-
