Aquaculture Brisk in South Hwanghae Province

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- South Hwanghae Province in the DPRK has pushed ahead with the work to revitalize aquaculture on a scientific basis in a planned way.

This year, the area of kelp culture grounds in the province has increased by more than 10 hectares as compared with the past period and many seafood production units are busy with harvesting kelps.

Officials of the provincial fishery management bureau are intensifying technical guidance to expand the area of culture grounds and encourage the introduction of advanced technology and mixed culture according to the characteristics of water areas.

The Pupho Offshore Farm has organized manpower rationally in accordance with the expanded area of culture grounds and conducted thinning and mud-shaking as demanded by technical regulations after finishing kelp-transplantation in the right season.

The Ongjin Offshore Farm makes its employees learn about the biological characteristics of kelp and cultivate them through technical study.

The Ongjin Coastal Fishery Station and the Ongjin West Sea Fish Farm introduced innovation proposals to increase the productivity per unit in cooperation with a scientific research unit, thus providing a guarantee for the present production and long-term production.

Meanwhile, the provincial fishery management bureau is taking measures to protect and multiply Ongjin laver, a natural monument of the DPRK. -0-
