Pyongyang, March 20 (KCNA) -- Self-reliance, the tradition of the Korean revolution and the driving force for building a powerful socialist country, is the political line of the Workers' Party of Korea which builds a socialist paradise thriving in Korean style with reliance on the foundations of self-sustenance and potentials.

The WPK has set self-reliance as an invariable political line, to be consistently adhered to, after formulating it as the fundamental orientation and mode of development of socialist construction, not as a temporary measure to meet the demand of changing situation or overcome the difficulties standing in the way of its advance.

It is our Party's firm belief that we can successfully attain any goal and put our style socialism onto a higher stage of development as there are the solid foundations of the self-supporting economy and our people's revolutionary spirit of self-sustenance.

Thanks to this unshakable faith and will of the WPK, our people's revolutionary spirit of self-sustenance has been steadily cultivated and, accordingly, the five-year plan for national economic development, set forth at the Eighth Congress of the WPK, was fulfilled in the main. And the country's foundation for prosperity by dint of self-reliance has been further consolidated, as evidenced by the fact that the regions, which account for one-fifth of the country, came to have a solid foundation for their independent development until last year along with the second inauguration season of the execution of the regional development policy.

Remarkable changes were also made in bolstering up the country's defence capabilities over the past five years, thanks to the steady progress of the independent defence industry reliably supporting the inexhaustible strong power of the armed forces of the DPRK.

Under the leadership of the WPK which has regarded self-reliance as its lifeline, our strength of overcoming any difficulties with our own efforts has been remarkably augmented and the confidence in it further redoubled. This is a precious spiritual and material asset incomparable with anything else.

The DPRK people are now full of enthusiasm and will to create great changes in the coming five years that surpass the miracles performed in the past five years, true to the WPK's idea of self-reliance.

Invincible is the cause of the WPK invariably upholding the noble ideas of "The people are God", single-hearted unity and self-reliance as the banner of struggle and advance. -0-
