Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The pent-up grudge and resentment of the Korean people toward the Japanese imperialists' cruel and brutal military rule erupted into a nationwide anti-Japanese resistance on March 1, 1919.
The March First Popular Uprising, started with a mass demonstration in Pyongyang, swept the whole of Korea and spread to the areas abroad where Koreans lived.
The panic-stricken Japanese imperialists mobilized all the repressive forces in Korea at that time to suppress the peaceful demonstration. Not content with this, they even shipped huge forces into Korea from the mainland of Japan.
They fully revealed their true colors as beasts in the suppression of the March First Popular Uprising.
Japanese imperialist murderers rushed to a young schoolgirl, who participated in the demonstration march, and cut her two arms with knives and killed her by hacking her body to pieces.
They committed all sorts of thrice-cursed atrocities. They broke the skulls of uprisers by striking the back of their heads with metal bars and hooks, stabbed their whole bodies with short swords to ensanguine and tore the mouth of a young boy with a knife and killed him mercilessly as he shouted a slogan of independence.
More than 100 000 Koreans lost their lives during the March First Popular Uprising alone due to the barbarous massacre of the Japanese imperialists.
As regards the crucial and atrocious massacre of the peaceful demonstration participants, even a government-patronized scholar of Japan confessed that the Japanese were hell-bent on the suppression too cruel to see.
A foreign witness said that the wild beating and crucial atrocities perpetrated by Japanese against an innocent Korean were so heinous and brutal that reminded him of an act of beast against human being, adding that the Japanese, though they committed such extreme atrocities, felt sorry for the lack of more extreme method.
During the March First Popular Uprising, the Japanese imperialists dyed the whole of Korea with the blood of innocent people. -0-
