Myriads of Catfish Fries Released into Paddy Fields

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Amid a campaign for expanding and introducing Korean-style green cultivation and fish farming methods, the Yakjon Farm in Sukchon County of the DPRK has released myriads of catfish fries into paddy fields.

The farm conducts a sci-tech study to make the farmers acquire the knowledge related to paddy-field fish breeding while striving to expand the area of fish farming.

Primary officials, in contact with the scientific farming promotion team, made a selection of right soil and provided favorable conditions for fish farming, taking into account the water resources, water quality, pollution in the surrounding area, watering and drainage and soil characteristics.

At the same time, the farm built a breed-fish ground and put the breeding on a sci-tech basis after setting the location and size of fish farm with consideration into the biological characteristics of fish and the conditions of breeding and management.

It laid a foundation for large-scale paddy-field fish breeding by introducing advanced hatching methods and increasing the non-grain feed production.

Its officials and agricultural workers are now striving to ensure the appropriate water temperature and prevent fish diseases while cultivating paddy rice tenaciously. -0-
