Measures Taken to Raise Disaster-Prevention Capability in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Various sectors of the national economy in the DPRK have taken scientific and practical measures to cope with the disastrous abnormal weather.

The electric-power industrial sector is scrupulously conducting the organizational work on the basis of working out a detailed plan, making it a fait accompli that there will be an effect of the disastrous abnormal weather.

All the provincial power transmission and distribution stations have pushed ahead with the work to reinforce the foundations of transmission line towers and electric-light poles, find out places vulnerable to strong winds and heavy rain and take measures for them in a foresighted way.

The thermal power plants completed the readjustment and repair of water pumping stations and water pumps and removed the sand accumulated at reservoirs in good time. The hydroelectric power stations scrupulously conducted the work to control the water level of dams and finished the repair of floodgates in a qualitative way.

The railway transport sector has installed arresters at traction transformer substations to prevent the supply of electricity from being interrupted due to thunderbolt damage and made circular inspection of the transformer equipment and electric car line, while repairing structures and replacing insulators.

Sectors of coal and mining industries and agriculture are putting spurs to the disaster prevention. -0-
