DPRK Farms Make Efforts to Cope with Drought

Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- The rural areas across the country concentrate their efforts on securing sufficient water resources and ensuring the full operation of irrigation equipment in order to cope with drought.

Mangyongdae, Rangnang and Sadong districts in Pyongyang Municipality are pushing ahead with the work to increase the water-storage capacity and keep the river water in reservoirs to the maximum.

To resolve the problem of irrigation water, officials in North Phyongan Province learnt about water shortages in some areas and are directing efforts to building more auxiliary reservoirs and underground water facilities, while securing pumping machine power equipment.

Sukchon, Mundok and Phyongwon and other counties in South Phyongan Province are finding out the sources of water while managing reservoir water in a scientific way.

Jaeryong, Paechon and Unchon counties of South Hwanghae Province have made more water holes near rice-seedling beds to increase the amount of available water. Hwangju, Yonthan and Kumchon counties of North Hwanghae Province are securing various kinds of accessories and materials so as to speed up the repair and maintenance of water pumps, motors and transformers.

Working people in South Hamgyong and Kangwon provinces and other parts of the country are striving to secure water resources and readjust and repair the irrigation facilities. -0-
