Technology of Cultivating Oil-bearing Tree Established in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- The Botany Institute of the State Academy of Sciences of the DPRK has recently established a technology of cultivating Quercus Rubra of high economic value, according to Rodong Sinmun.

Tens of kilograms of oil can be extracted from one ton of its fruit. And edible alcohol can be made from the residue, the rest used for feeding domestic animals and its timber used for manufacturing furniture.

At present, North and South Hwanghae provinces are converting shrubberies into forests of Quercus Rubra and a lot of areas are following suit as it requires little investment and has great economic benefits.

Scientists of the institute are giving scientific and technological guidance at its introduction in contact with relevant areas and, at the same time, making efforts to perfect the cultivation technology including increasing fruit production and raising the alive rate of graft. -0-
