Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- The 39th National Festival of Science and Technology closed with due ceremony at the Sci-Tech Complex on May 7.

Exchanged at the festival were valuable scientific and technological successes and experience conducive to the country's economic development and the improvement of the people's standard of living. And inter-sector symposiums and presentations on science and technology and technical lectures took place to provide a reliable scientific and technological guarantee for carrying out the new long-term plan.

Present at the closing ceremony were Kim Sung Du, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and working people.

The general examination results were announced at the ceremony.

The paper engineering institute and the modernization institute of the State Academy of Sciences, the faculties of automation engineering and heat engineering of Kim Chaek University of Technology and the Sinpho City Offshore Farm took the special place and 62 units including the command team of the Kangwon provincial army-people power station construction division and the Chonsong Youth Coal Mine of the Sunchon Area Youth Coal-mining Complex the first place.

The new technology goods development prize was awarded to 18 units, including the North Phyongan Provincial General Hospital, the Yonan County Taehung Management Bureau, Phyongsong University of Medicine and Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, and the merit prize was conferred on 13 units, including the Resources Development Institute of the Faculty of Resources Science of Kim Il Sung University.

In the standings of ministries and national agencies and provinces, the State Academy of Sciences and South Hamgyong Province took the special place and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Pyongyang Municipality and Kangwon Province the first place.

Diplomas, trophies, medals and prizes were awarded to the successful units and participants.
