Pyongyang, December 31 (KCNA) -- Kaesong Municipality of the DPRK is strengthening the sci-tech forces to develop the regional economy and improve the people's standard of living.

The municipal commission of science and technology set it as its research task to consolidate the existing production foundations of factories and enterprises in the municipality, including the Kaesong Machine Factory, and has intensified collective discussions with field technicians to establish cost- and labour-saving production lines.

The municipal industry technology institute completed an electric power supply system at electric furnaces, one of the major components in the pig iron production process, as required by technical indices in contact with researchers of the Ferrous Metal Research Institute of the State Academy of Sciences.

Many units in the municipality, including the Kaesong Koryo Insam Processing Factory, the Songdo Foodstuff Factory and the Songdo Garment Factory, are improving the quality of products and developing new products, favored by the people, by steadily strengthening their own technical forces. -0-
