Scenic Ryongmun Cavern

Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) -- At the foot of Mt Ryongmun in Kujang County, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK, there is the Ryongmun Cavern widely known as an underground scenic spot.

This natural cavern with great diversity in form and figure was formed about 480 million years ago by dissolution and corrosion action of limestone water dropping from the ceiling.

There are more than 20 scenic spots along the two main caves and over 30 branch caves.

Among them are Phungnyondong (rich harvest) resembling a stack of grain, Sokhwadong (stone flower) and Paekhwadong (all sorts of flowers). All these scenic spots formed by stalagmites are arousing the admiration of people for their majesty, magnificence, elegance and beauty.

While inspecting the cavern on March 26, 1996, Chairman Kim Jong Il gave detailed instructions on the issues and ways for sprucing up the scenic spots, preserving and managing them and organizing the tour well.

Afterwards, he gave important instructions on several occasions, guiding the work to turn it into a cavern immaculate in all aspects in the future.

The Ryongmun Cavern, turned into a wonderful resort under the warm loving care of the Chairman to provide the people with a happier and civilized life, has contributed to the cultural and emotional life of the working people. -0-
