Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- December 12, 1948 is a significant day when President Kim Il Sung test-fired the first submachine gun made by our working class.

After the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945, the President chose a site for the first munitions factory and set out a plan to expand and develop the country's munitions industry based on it.

He sent a sample of new submachine gun, dispatched technicians, skilled workers and young experts at manufacturing weaponry scouted from across the country to the factory and supplemented the factory with necessary machinery and equipment.

He stressed that we should make everything including the springs by our own efforts. Thanks to his meticulous care, the first home-made submachine gun came into being.

Visiting the firing range on Phyongchon Plain, he took a submachine gun in his hand and said that the factory made submachine guns very well and that today we would boast of the might of the resourceful and intelligent Korean people to the world.

Then he sat down at the firing table and test-fired the submachine gun.

This day is recorded in the history of our revolution as a historic day that declared the birth of the self-reliant defence industry.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed that the sound rang by the President with the first submachine gun made by the Korean working class is echoing as the great explosion of a nuclear bomb, H-bomb reliably defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country and the nation. And he noted that it is the most precious revolutionary exploits of the President that he built the powerful Juche-based defence industry. -0-
