Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of awarding the February 16 Science and Technology Prize took place at the People's Palace of Culture on March 7.

Present there were Vice-Premier Jon Sung Guk, Department Director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Choe Tong Myong, Chairman of the State Commission of Science and Technology Ri Chung Gil, officials concerned, scientists and technicians, etc.

The certificate and medal of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize were awarded to ten projects which greatly contributed to the economic development and the improvement of the people's living standard last year and the certificate of the prize for sci-tech innovation to four projects and prize awarded to them.

More than 100 officials, scientists, technicians and teachers of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Nano Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences, the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, the Sangwon Cement Complex and other units who took part in the projects were awarded certificates of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize.

More than 20 officials, scientists and technicians of the Chongjin Steel Plant, the Chemical Engineering Institute of the Hamhung Branch of the State Academy of Sciences, the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the Pyongyang Municipality General Passenger Service Enterprise and other units were awarded certificates of the prize for sci-tech innovation.

Ri Su Yong, researcher of the Nano Materials Institute of the Nano Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences, Kim Hyok Chon, section chief of the Power-driven Machine Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, Kang Jin U, head of a department of Physics Faculty of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Mun Chol, director of the Microbiological Research Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, Ji Un Jong, researcher of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University, Kwon Chang Dok, section chief of the Mining Engineering Faculty of Kim Chaek University of Technology, and Ri Kwang Jin, researcher of the Biomedicine Institute of the Academy of Medical Science, were selected as the best scientists and technicians in 2023.

The Prize for Best Inventor for 2023 was awarded to Kim Song Chol, chief engineer of the Taedonggang Battery Factory, Won Song Rim, section chief of the Architectural Science Institute of Pyongyang University of Architecture, Kim In Chol, director of the Pyongyang Medical Appliances Technical Company, Ri Myong Hwa, director of the Jangjagang Oil Sales Office, and Kim Hyok, director of the Health Promotion Technology Development Center of Pyongyang University of Medicine. -0-
