Lunar New Year's Day Celebrated in DPRK

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The people of the DPRK significantly greeted the lunar New Year's Day.

An endless stream of visitors with loyalty flew into the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun where President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il lie in state.

Officials, working people, service personnel and school youth and children laid floral baskets, bouquets and flowers at the statues of the President and the Chairman on Mansu Hill and other parts of the country and mosaics depicting the peerlessly great men.

The new streets and rural villages, successfully built under the wise leadership of the great Workers' Party of Korea, put on colorful festival decorations and laughs and songs of happiness were heard from every family.

Colorful art performances were given in the capital city of Pyongyang and local areas, revving up the festive mood.

There was a national schoolchildren's kite-flying game in Kim Il Sung Square.

Folk games including shuttlecock game, top spinning and rope-skipping were played by schoolchildren in Pyongyang and South Hwanghae Province, Nampho and Kaesong municipalities and other regions.

Public catering establishments across the country were crowded with visitors and the Central Zoo, the Natural History Museum, the Munsu Water Park and other bases for cultural and emotional life were filled with happy laughter of the people.

Streets of the capital city were decorated with peculiar lights. -0-
