Dance "Yangsando" Recreated into Korean-style Janggu Dance

One day in January 1972, Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Mansudae Art Troupe and watched the dance "Yangsando".

The female dancers with flower-patterned parasols in their right hands and light kerchiefs in their left hands cheerfully danced to the tune of the folk song "Yangsando".

Watching the dance, the Chairman called a creator and asked him if he could create Janggu dance with the folk song.

He could not answer soon the Chairman's unexpected question.

The Chairman said that it would be more pleasant to dance with the national percussion instrument Janggu, instead of the parasol, to the tune of the folk song "Yangsando" singing of the gentle flow of the River Taedong.

The creators were deeply moved by what he said.

Later, the dance "Yangsando" was recreated into a Korean-style Janggu dance with the fine rhythms and diverse dance movements which are well harmonized, and it was enthusiastically acclaimed by the audience as an excellent work showing the appearance of the Juche-oriented efflorescing art of dance under the care of the Chairman. -0-
