One day in March 1962, President Kim Il Sung had a talk with the neighbourhood unit leaders to learn about the living conditions of the citizens of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, and suddenly asked if there was a primary school on the side of the Taedong Gate.

An official said that there was a university, not a primary school.

With a serious look, the President said he often sees the children going to school across the main street, and that it is dangerous for them as many motorcars run.

He said that primary school should be newly built or the university should be moved to other place to use it as the primary school in order to prevent the young pupils from crossing the main street. And he said earnestly that the best things and conditions should be provided for the children.

Thanks to the warm love of the President who spares nothing for the rising generations, Pyongyang Taedongmun Primary School (Kim Song Ju Primary School) came into being. -0-
