One day in May 1991, President Kim Il Sung came to return to the then Kumsusan Assembly Hall ahead of schedule after giving field guidance at local areas.

When he arrived at the hall, a road pavement project was going on in its compound. The President called an official to account for having launched the project though he instructed not to repave the road.

The official replied that it was the unanimous desire of all the people in the country to provide smooth roads for the President's field guidance and that if they knew about the broken compound road in the hall, they would reprove officials.

The President said that his pleasure was not in that work, but in the happiness of the people and he would go along even rough roads with pleasure every day, if it is for the wellbeing of the people.

He stressed that he would regard any pains for the people's happiness as his great pleasure, saying that whenever he saw people feel inconvenience in their life, his mind was very heavy and he didn't want to get on his car, so he used to visit farms on foot to make the people be better off, though he was old.

Indeed, the President had spent days and months with love and devotion to the people while making ceaseless journey for their wellbeing, regarding it as his motto to believe in them as in Heaven. -0-
