One day in May 1984, Chairman Kim Jong Il was looking at a model board showing the Kim Chaek City Construction Plan.

The Chairman could not take his eyes off the area of the single-story apartment houses.

The Chairman looked at the model board for a while without saying anything. Then he told officials around him that the single-storey houses should be pulled down without hesitation and multi-storey houses built in a peculiar way.

The officials had been satisfied with building many single-storey houses for the people thinking that it was great.

Looking at them seized with remorse, the Chairman said that the Party stresses the need for the officials to enhance the Party spirit, the working-class spirit and the popular spirit in order to make them put the main emphasis on the interests of the people in designing everything and putting them into practice, adding that they should therefore give primary attention to the convenience of the people in their daily life when constructing a city and building a house.

Looking up to the Chairman, who points out the defects to be corrected in the model board and teaches them the direction of the revision, the officials pledged to fulfill their mission and duty as faithful servants of the people true to his noble intention. -0-
