Precise Prescription Given by President Kim Il Sung for Corn Farming

One day in early autumn 1976, President Kim Il Sung visited the then Samjigang Cooperative Farm in Jaeryong County, South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK.

The rice on the farm was in good condition that year, but corn farming was not good.

In fact, the corns planted on the farm were not self-fertilizing because the corn tassels come out before corn silk and the pollen is blown off by wind.

So, the farm introduced another method, but as the method was laborious and technically difficult, the farm had no clear prescription for fertilizing corns until that time.

After acquainting himself with this fact, the President asked if there was the variety of corn whose tassels come out at a time when corn silk come out.

An official told him that there were various kinds of corns.

The President said that if the said-corns and the corns planted on the farm are planted together, they would be fertilized properly.

The moment, a wide prospect burst upon the views of officials.

The prescription given by the President was based on scientific insight into the physiological characteristics of corns doing self- and cross-fertilization, unlike rice. -0-
