Loving Care Shown by Chairman Kim Jong Il for Health of Workers

Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- One day in June, 1977 Chairman Kim Jong Il called a senior official of South Hamgyong Province.

The Chairman gladly greeted him and said that the workers of the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex should work hard from now on to carry out this year's fertilizer production plan, adding that he had called the senior official even though it was late at night in order to acquaint himself with their living conditions.

As the Chairman was asking about the workers' living conditions at a time when the fertilizer production was urgent, the senior official said that there is no problem.

The Chairman said that there would be problems in the living conditions of the workers at the complex where a large number of workers are working and living, and kindly told him to talk if there is any problem.

Moved by his noble intention, the senior official told him that some older workers were suffering from unhealthy teeth.

Reproaching him for telling such issue just now, the Chairman said in a worrying tone that production is important but more important is the health of workers and that fertilizer cannot be produced without workers.

The official said that he would organize intensive medical check-up and treatment by mobilizing the medical staff in the province after finishing the tense production of chemical fertilizer. Then the Chairman said as it is the issue related to the health of the workers, relevant measures should be taken immediately, not after the fertilizer production.

The Chairman also took state measures for mobilizing competent dentists and prosthetists and providing prosthetic materials and equipment immediately.

Under such loving care, intensive medical check-up and treatment of the workers were conducted at the complex in the midst of fertilizer production for the year. -0-
