One day in September 1976, President Kim Il Sung guided a consultative meeting of primary officials at the then ten cooperative farms in Sangso-ri, the then Anju County, South Phyongan Province, the DPRK.

Saying that the crop yield of Sangso-ri is not high due to drought, he personally calculated the equipment and materials needed to irrigate the fields of Sangso-ri with the water of Lake Yonphung.

In order to supply patches and terraced paddy fields in Sangso-ri with the water of the lake, it was necessary to pump through several stages the water which arrives at the neighboring village by three-stage pumping. So this project required a lot of equipment, materials and manpower.

And it was difficult to expect the effectiveness of the investment as the area under irrigation was scores of hectares of mountain fields and terraced paddy fields.

While removing the practical calculation and thinking of the officials, the President said that the state would provide the necessary equipment and materials for irrigation, although it would be a thing to kill a fly with a long spear.

The officials were deeply moved by his instructions associated with his warm love for the farmers. -0-
