One November day in 1973, President
The President posed a question for the officials to solve it together, asking how much rice grain would be lost if 20 grams of grain are left in one rice-sheaf after threshing when regarding that 1 000 rice-sheaves come out in one hectare of paddy field.
Looking at the officials saying that it is 20 kilograms, the President informed them of the area of paddy fields in our country and told them to calculate it.
After making calculation for a while, the officials looked at each other with surprise.
On a nationwide scale, the figures they calculated were by no means small.
He told officials with anxiety that the amount of grain loss was too large and he called for eliminating the grain loss by sorting rice ears from every rice-straw sheaf.
Upon receiving the instructions of the President, the officials deeply cherished the value of a grain which they thought was unworthy. -0-
